It targets ryanodine receptors, which generate a rapid release of calcium in the muscles, resulting in muscular contraction, which interrupts feeding and causes paralysis. In the neurological system, it blocks GABA-gated chloride channels, interrupting nerve function and resulting in pest overactivity and death. This dual action protects the crop throughout its early growing period.
In rice, BICOTA provides longer (about a week) protection compared to other treatments, preventing ‘dead heart’ and ‘white ear’ in crops. This reduces the requirement for early-stage reapplications.
